John Hudson Dilgen, Death Obituary: Family And Friends Mourns Hudson John
It is with profound sorrow and deep respect that we remember John Hudson Dilgen, a 23-year-old from Staten Island, who passed away on April 19, 2026, in Tottenville. His passing leaves behind a grieving family, a loving community, and countless individuals who were inspired by his remarkable life and unwavering spirit.
Born on July 20, 2002, in Brooklyn, New York, to Faye Purpura Dilgen and John Dilgen, John Hudson moved to Tottenville as an infant, where he was raised in a close-knit community that witnessed his growth into an extraordinary young man. His early years included education at P.S. 1 and I.S. 34, as well as involvement with Cub Pack 21—experiences that helped shape his sense of belonging, leadership, and friendship.
From birth, John Hudson lived with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare and challenging genetic condition. Yet rather than allowing it to define or limit him, he transformed his experience into a source of purpose. With courage beyond his years, he became a passionate advocate for others living with EB, using his voice to raise awareness and inspire change. His advocacy reached far beyond his immediate circle, earning him recognition as one of Staten Island’s most influential young voices in 2016.
Despite the challenges he faced, John Hudson embraced life with joy and curiosity. He found happiness in cooking for his family, and he expressed his personality through his love for Japanese culture, Disney pin collecting and trading, Marvel stories, and the New York Rangers. These interests reflected a young man who sought joy in creativity, connection, and imagination.
At the heart of his life was a mission to make a difference. Through his involvement with the EB Research Partnership, John Hudson dedicated himself to helping others and advancing the fight against EB. His advocacy, honesty, and compassion left a lasting mark on everyone he encountered. He will be remembered not only for what he endured, but for how he chose to live—with love, purpose, and extraordinary generosity of spirit.
He is survived by his devoted mother Faye, his siblings Kalilla and Teak, his brother-in-law Pascal, his grandparents Peter and Cathy Purpura and Enea Dilgen, and many loving extended family members. He was predeceased by his father, John Dilgen, his paternal grandfather, and his maternal grandmother.
Arrangements include visitation on Wednesday from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at Our Lady Help of Christians RC Church at 11:00 AM.
John Hudson Dilgen will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered for the light he brought into the world and the lives he changed through his courage and compassion.
