Royce Hawkins Missing Obituary: 2 Year Old Royce Hawkins Missing After Mother Fatally Shot in D.C
Authorities in Washington, D.C., are urgently searching for 2-year-old Royce Hawkins after an Amber Alert was issued in connection with a tragic and violent incident that also claimed the life of his mother on April 21 in Northwest Washington.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Royce was last seen around 7:00 p.m. in the 500 block of Kenyon Street NW while with his mother. Hours later, just before 11:00 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Kenyon Street NW, where they discovered an adult woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the situation began as an argument between the woman and a man in an alleyway, which escalated into gunfire. The suspect fled the area immediately after the shooting and has not yet been located. Authorities continue to actively search for him as part of the ongoing investigation.
During the initial response and follow-up investigation, police learned that the woman’s young child, Royce Hawkins, was missing from the scene. This discovery prompted the issuance of an Amber Alert and an urgent citywide search for the toddler. Officials emphasize the seriousness of the situation and are asking the public to remain vigilant.
Royce is described as a 2-year-old Black male with a light complexion, brown eyes, and black hair. At the time he was last seen, he was wearing a long-sleeve yellow shirt with blue stripes. Due to his age and the circumstances of his disappearance, authorities are treating the search as highly time-sensitive and critical.
Police are also seeking a male suspect believed to be in his mid-20s, reportedly dressed in all black clothing and wearing a ski mask. He is considered a person of interest in connection with the shooting and the child’s disappearance.
The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward immediately by calling 911 or contacting investigators at 202-727-9099.
As the investigation continues, the community remains deeply concerned and hopeful for Royce Hawkins’ safe return. Authorities continue to work around the clock to piece together what happened and bring the child home safely.
